Visit to Suswa December 2024
We had the privilege of visiting local destinations around Nairobi during the school holidays. In December we had the first train trip as a community. We used the Standard Gage Railway to visit Suswa. Suswa is in Narok County and is known for its hot sun, roasted meats, and vast land which is frequented by pastoralist communities. Part of the experience included passing through underground tunnels during the journey. The passage made the children so excited that every time we entered a tunnel they would shout in excitement then quiet down when we were in the open. They did this throughout the journey. It was funny and made the trip more memorable. The scenery along the way allowed the girls to see animals and plants depicted in their school books, and the older girls saw the different land formations that form the Kenyan geography. When we got to the end terminal, we enjoyed the sun, shared a meal of sandwiches, fruit, and soda. Some girls were accompanied to walk around the Suswa area, some played games, others basked in the sun, and some enjoyed small group interactions. When we returned, the girls were exhausted and they slept easily. These joys are treasured memories and so precious to our girls. Whenever they open school, we value how excited they are to share their holiday experiences with their friends. With each outing, they feel so special and excited. We owe a debt of gratitude to our donors for these moments.
