Team Building
During the Christmas holidays the girls were able to experience team building activities. The facilitator was a gentleman who was also raised within a children’s home environment. He uses his experiences and skills to equip children in similar circumstances to rise above the odds. Some of the activities included filling a water bottle by collecting water in their palms and passing it onto other team members until the last member poured it into the bottle. They engaged in sack races and balloon games. The
different activities were meant to trigger emotions which would reveal how each person
expresses their emotions. The aim was to learn how to effectively deal with our emotions. The
girls have different past experiences and these memories illicit different emotions. The point of the exercises was to learn how to deal with and find healthy ways of processing and moving past these emotions. The activities were a fun and safe way to express and learn this skill. At the end of the fun games, the facilitator was able to point out how different initiatives affected each girl differently. Some would give up and then recover and resume the activity with their team. Others would laugh off the setbacks. Others would freeze. Some seemed to embrace the challenges and push forward to complete the task with relentless passion. It was a great show of individuality and highlighted areas for personal growth.
