Shalom Community Centre

During this holiday, the new Community Centre and the playground made our holiday so much easier and better. We were able to balance academic and educational activities, recreational activities, and play time. We had study time and holiday tutoring for the girls to help them brush up on subjects they were struggling with. Much of the tutoring was performed by their older sisters. Many of the girls prefer to study in the Community Centre where it is more quiet and there are less distractions. The Community Centre is also where we were all able to bake cakes for each house at the same time and have everyone participate because the space and facilities enabled free movement and utilities such as the sink for clearing or washing. We were able to have communal time and ensure all houses could participate concurrently to promote equity of resources and foster unity in activities. It also helped with learning from one another, especially during the baking. The girls could move from one station to the next to compare how each team was doing and share tips that helped them during the various baking stages. Furthermore, the girls had ample play and social time in the beautiful building. We are grateful the weather was favorable. Some girls enjoyed using the park playground while others just enjoyed laying out on the grass and socializing with their friends. We also had group games where everyone enjoyed participating in, such as musical chairs. We are truly enjoying having the center as it has made a difference in how we receive guests and how we enjoy the holiday season. It has made a huge difference in our day to day lives.
