PCH Farm

This year, we experienced unusually high rainfall due to climate change. March to May is often the long rainy season in Kenya for the most parts. However, this year the amount and duration of the rainfall exceeded the expected average. In previous years, the amount of rainfall ranges between 100mm to 300mm. This year, the rainfall was approximately 614mm which resulted in heavy flooding in most parts of the country including PCH. As a result, the farm produce at PCH was waterlogged and some was even washed away with the flooding, which affected the production of vegetables and greens during the period of the rainfall. As soon as the rain stopped, we quickly tilled the soil in order to resume our vegetable garden. The girls were a blessing as they helped to till the land and plant new seeds to replenish our crops. This season has been both challenging and enlightening to us. It showed us that a season may bring devastation and destruction, but with patience and hard work, we can succeed. We wanted to show the girls that when something bad happens, it does not mean all is hopeless.
