Joram G Memorial Academy News

The Joram G Memorial Academy (JGMA) was greatly impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic when all the Kenya schools were forced to close. Our school is funded by the tuition it collects. As a result, all our school staff were initially furloughed without pay. Our school staff are an integral part of our ministry and we could not stand by and see them and their families go hungry as a result of the furlough, so we reached out to all our U.S. donors for help. Your response was overwhelming. As a result of your generosity, our staff received half pay from April through December and were able to hold on when others in Kenya did not fare as well.

The staff was so appreciative during the time of the furlough that they implemented an online learning program for students who had the technology means to participate. Work packets were created for the students who could not continue their education online. Thanks to the donations raised by the June 2020 Mission Team, electrical outlets were installed in every classroom and a WIFI system was added before their trip was cancelled, which allowed for the success of the online learning program. Who would have guessed how well all this would fall into place. God’s timing is always perfect. The Mission Team is making plans now for a June 2021 trip. Please pray for them and for the vaccine that will allow them to come.

The Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will reopen starting January 4th. All our staff will be back to work right as the emergency salary funding ran out. Another example of God’s perfect timing. Many schools in our region closed their doors for good as a result of the pandemic mandatory school closures. Thanks to you, we are able to reopen our school and will surely be having many additional students attempting to enroll.
